It happens. A lot.
Unfortunately, this is the case. Your phone slipped, and has landing in the toilet bowl, a puddle of water, or your morning cup of coffee. However, not all is lost. It’s definitely possible to save your iPhone or any other phone once it’s come into contact with water or any other form of liquid
Here’s what to do.
First things first. If the phone is still on, turn it off. If it turned off while being exposed to water or liquid, DO NOT attempt to turn it on. If you try to turn on your phone, there’s a high probability that you will short out the motherboard or the battery.
If you short out the battery, it’s not a huge deal. It can be easily replaced. However, if you short out the motherboard, that’s an entirely different story and in most cases, you’ll need to replace the phone.
With that being said, it’s imperative to dry the exterior of the phone and remove any standing water. And when possible, dry up the interior of the phone as well. If you have an Android phone such as a Samsung, HTC, LG, or Nokia model, it’s possible to remove the back cover (in most cases) and remove the battery.
Understandably, the common user won’t be able to go much further. Time is of the essence here, and you’ll want to contact a professional right away to open up the phone and dry out the inside.
This is when submerging your phone into a bag of rice or specific silicon beads to absorb and water that you can’t reach is imperative. You can also dry your phone using a blow dryer to help evaporate the water. However, make sure you don’t overheat your phone. And again, it’s best to call the professionals ASAP.
This issue with water and electronics is that it will begin to corrode the insides. All of the capacitors, transistors, and every little bit that makes your phone a smartphone will begin to corrode. The longer the water is left untreated, the more severe the corrosion.
